Armie Hammer's Separation from Johnny Depp During the Lone Ranger Press Tour Due to Drug Use Allegations
Armie Hammer's Past Actions Lead to Ban from The Lone Ranger Promotions
Armie Hammer, known for his roles in films like The Social Network and The Lone Ranger, has opened up about an incident that led to his ban from joint promotional appearances with Johnny Depp for Disney's The Lone Ranger.
During a podcast interview with his cohost Ashton Ramsey, Hammer admitted to heavily smoking marijuana at the time (up to 15-20 joints a day) and sharing it with Depp before a press junket. This incident, though not explicitly named, is believed to have occurred during the promotion of The Lone Ranger, which was released in 2013.
Hammer humorously recalled that after this incident, the studio or promotional handlers insisted they be kept apart and not do press together, saying, "You two can't be together anymore." This decision led to Hammer's effective ban from promotional appearances with Depp for The Lone Ranger.
The podcast episode where Hammer shared this story is the July 28 episode of his Armie HammerTime podcast.
Hammer has weathered various controversies in the past, including sexual assault accusations and revelations about a past suicide attempt and painful experiences with childhood sexual abuse. Despite these challenges, Hammer is set to make a comeback with his first big-screen role post-controversy in Frontier Crucible, where he stars alongside William H. Macy. Frontier Crucible wrapped filming in January, and if it does not release in 2024, the 2026 movie schedule is a safe bet for its release.
