Armed Standoff at Windsor: Local Man Convicted After Firetruck Siege

Windsor Man Convicted of 17 Charges in Armed Firetruck Standoff

Damien Jackson, a resident of Windsor, Colorado, was found guilty on August 2, 2025, by a Larimer County jury of 17 charges, including attempted murder, following an armed confrontation with law enforcement that was live-streamed.

The incident, which occurred outside the AmericInn Lodge and Suites, began when Jackson allegedly triggered a fire alarm to lure first responders. Emergency response teams, including Windsor Severance Fire Rescue and Windsor Police, responded to the alarm due to reports of an armed man.

Upon arrival, officers engaged in a standoff with Jackson, during which he climbed onto a firetruck and began firing at them. Two civilians were evacuated without injury. Jackson was found to be wearing body armor and carrying multiple firearms upon arrest.

The three-day trial included testimony from law enforcement officers, firearm experts, crime scene analysts, and civilians caught in the crossfire. Prosecutors argued that Jackson intentionally triggered the fire alarm to lure first responders and had additional weapons and ammunition in his vehicle.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Robert Axmacher and Senior Deputy DA Michael Mangione led the prosecution, resulting in Jackson's conviction on all charges. He was convicted on additional charges, including 5 counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder (Class 2 Felony), 3 counts of First-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (Class 3 Felony), 5 counts of Felony Menacing with a Weapon (Class 5 Felony), False Reporting, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing an Officer, and Reckless Endangerment (Class 2 Misdemeanors).

With violent crime sentence enhancements applied, Jackson faces a minimum of 80 years in the Department of Corrections. Sentencing for Jackson is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, at 1:30 PM in Courtroom 4B.
