Why are there smoke-filled skies over the stretch of the Indo-Pak border today? Because, on Tuesday, the 6th of May, India unleashed Operation "Sindur" - a barrage of strikes on Pakistani soil.
The initial response came from ISPR Director-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. He confirmed at least three fatalities and twelve injuries due to enemy fire. As it stands, this confrontation is being streamed live by Geo News.
As per the televised broadcast, Pakistan's counter-attack mirrored India'sly and struck Indian territory. According to reports, Pakistan has delivered an "appropriate response to aggression." The actions of Pakistan have been dubbed "brave" by its security sources, who consider India's strikes as an act of cowardice.
Sources claim that Pakistani blood will be avenged regardless of the cost. The casualties and fatalities are reportedly all civilians, according to Pakistani security sources.
Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry explained that three sites within Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli were hit by Indian rockets, allegedly targeting mosques and other infrastructure. He added that all Indian Air Force planes were in the air during the attack, making it a shameful and cowardly assault from Indian airspace.
Defending its actions, India emphasized that its targets were solely terrorist camps and not civilians, economic, or military targets in Pakistan. The embassy representatives in Washington further stated that Pakistan failed to act against terrorists and their infrastructure following the terrorist attack in Kashmir. News of the strikes has also been relayed to the U.S. Secretary of State.
India has also kept Russia, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE informed about the "Sindur" operation. It is said that India strategically picked the strike locations to target the leadership of "Jaish-e-Mohammed" and "Lashkar-e-Taiba."
The sides exchanged information about the aftermath of their attacks. Indian news outlet News18 reported the elimination of 17 Pakistani militants and the injury of 60 more. However, Pakistan's Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down five Indian aircraft - a claim that Indian authorities have yet to verify.
The intrusion of Indian aircraft into Pakistani airspace has been noted in the United States, and American leader Donald Trump has denounced the aggression of New Delhi. He expressed hope for a swift resolution to the military conflict and declared that he learned about the Indian military strikes from media representatives.
This escalation between India and Pakistan is the latest in a long-running dispute that has its roots in the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. The recent flare-up stems from a fatal militant attack on 22 April, 2025, in the valley of Bayasar near Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 28 people, including one Nepali citizen and the rest from India. The attack was claimed by the Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is a banned terrorist organization in Russia.
