Armed extremists affiliated with Boko Haram murder seven individuals identifying as Christians in Borno state, Nigeria.
Bloodshed in Borno: Boko Haram Terrorists Strike Again
Last Monday (April 28), Borno State — northeast Nigeria's heart — was once again the grim stage for a chilling tale of terror. Boko Haram insurgents, notorious for their harsh campaign against non-Muslims and Christians in particular, rampaged through Kwaple village in Chibok County, claiming seven innocent lives and sending shivers down the spines of many.
James Musa, a local resident, confirmed the gruesome events. "Kwaple village in Chibok Local Government Area is under siege, courtesy of Boko Haram terrorists," he said. "God, have mercy on us." His plea was echoed in the messages he, along with numerous others, sent to Christian Daily International-Morning Star News.
During the vicious attack, Ibrahim Adamu, another resident of the village, reported that seven Christian mourners — gathered for a wake — were brutally slain, with several others sustaining grievous injuries at the hands of suspected Boko Haram insurgents. Modu Mustapha, Chairman of the Chibok Local Government Council, echoed Adamu's account, affirming that the assailants attacked a wake in Kwaple community and left a trail of despair in their wake.
Seemingly grasping at the edges of survival, the wounded victims were rushed to the hospital. To add salt to the wound, numerous church buildings were reduced to ashes in the attack.
Sadly, this was not an isolated incident. The past few weeks have seen a surge in violence across the region, sparking fears of a resurgence of Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Remember, Boko Haram, officially known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, dreams of imposing strict Islamic law, or Sharia, throughout Nigeria.
Suspected militants ambushed and claimed the lives of 12 civilians and two security officials, wounded two others, and destroyed several buildings in Borno's Gwoza area just three days prior to the Kwaple village attack. The bloodshed continued in Adamawa State, where at least 10 people were murdered and several others were injured during an attack on Kopre village on the very same Saturday.
T Tuesday (April 28) saw 26 lives snuffed out when an explosive device devastated two vehicles traveling between Rann and Gamboru Ngala in Borno State.
According to Open Doors' 2025 World Watch List of the most difficult countries for Christians, Nigeria remains a perilous place for them. Of the 4,476 Christians killed for their faith worldwide during the reporting period, 3,100 (69 percent) called Nigeria their home. Suffice it to say, Nigeria holds the seventh spot on the 2025 WWL list of the 50 worst countries for Christians.
"The measure of anti-Christian violence in the country is already at its maximum possible under World Watch List methodology," the report announced.
