Armed Citizen Report: Aug. 18, 2025 - Incidents Involving Law-Abiding Gun Owners

In a dramatic turn of events, a confrontation involving a shooting took place in Littlefield, Texas, on May 7, at approximately 11 p.m., near a convenience store in downtown. According to reports, the incident began when two intruders attempted to rob L. L. Maready's store. In an effort to protect himself, Maready, the shop owner, displayed his weapon, causing one of the intruders to drop his gun. However, one of the intruders continued the attack, prompting Maready to fire his gun in self-defense. The intruders then fell to the floor and crawled out the door, running to their getaway car. The police department arrived at the scene to find a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The injured man was transported to an area hospital. His identity has not been disclosed, and he faces potential charges related to the ongoing investigation. The man's account stated that the suspect had initiated an 'unprovoked physical assault'. Witness statements and surveillance footage corroborated his account of the incident. The police department confirmed that the incident was a case of self-defense. The shooter, who identified himself at the scene, stated that he had fired his gun in self-defense. The incident is reminiscent of another robbery attempt that occurred in August 1978, in Jacksonville, N.C., where Maready was also involved. An investigation is ongoing to determine if the injured suspect will face criminal charges related to the attack. The specific penalties have not been detailed yet.
