Armed assailant trailed residential property in Pennsylvania a day preceding fatal police shooting, according to files
A shooting incident that occurred in Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon has left authorities searching for a suspect, identified as Matthew Ruth, a 24-year-old man from Hanover. The incident took place around 2 p.m., and police vehicles blocked off roads near a barn, a goat farm, soybean, and corn fields.
The Associated Press reported that Matthew Ruth is the suspected shooter in the incident. According to a caller, she had seen a white male wearing camouflage on her trail camera. The caller's daughter, who had previously reported that her pickup truck was set on fire while it was in her driveway on Aug. 20, was able to identify the man in the trail camera photo as her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Ruth.
On Tuesday, Northern York Regional Police were called to a North Codorus Township home in the 1800 block of Haar Road after someone reported a man on the property with binoculars. Matthew Ruth was allegedly seen looking into the home with binoculars, according to the caller. In the trail camera photo, Matthew Ruth was reported to have an AR-15 rifle slung across his chest while looking into the home.
Police spoke with the caller's daughter at her home on Tuesday and showed her a photo of the man taken on the trail camera. Officers searched the area but didn't find the male on Tuesday. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the case and are expected to release more information around 3 p.m. on Thursday.
