Arkansas relinquishes pledge from 2026 quarterback prospect
Carolina Panthers Lose Commitment from Top QB Prospect Jayvon Gilmore
The Carolina Panthers have suffered a significant blow to their 2026 recruiting efforts, with three-star quarterback prospect Jayvon Gilmore decommitting from the team. Gilmore, a standout player from Gaffney High School in South Carolina, was the only quarterback commitment for the Panthers in the upcoming class.
Gilmore, who was primarily recruited against schools like Auburn and Michigan, completed 14 of 28 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown in three games this season. However, his junior year was more productive, finishing with 2,510 passing yards and 26 touchdowns.
The departure of Gilmore leaves a noticeable gap for offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino to find another option to lead the future of the Panthers' offense. The team will aim to fill the vacancy, either with another high school prospect or by exploring transfer options.
Early struggles and quarterback rotation at Gaffney High School may have influenced Gilmore's decision to leave his Panthers commitment behind. The school has been adjusting under new head coach Donnie Littlejohn.
Despite the setback, the focus for Carolina shifts to regrouping and ensuring the 2026 class remains strong. The Panthers' 2026 class now has 25 commitments after Gilmore's decommitment.
It's worth noting that Gilmore chose Carolina over a host of other prestigious programs, including Louisville, North Carolina State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and more than 20 other scholarship offers. He is still considered one of South Carolina's top players in his class, ranked No. 9 in the state and No. 29 nationally among quarterbacks.
Any potential transfer for Gilmore could be complicated by new eligibility rules in South Carolina. Meanwhile, Bryce Gilmore, an offensive lineman from Texas, is the second player to back away from the Panthers recently, having pledged to Texas Tech.
As the Panthers move forward, they will undoubtedly be on the lookout for a new quarterback prospect to lead their offense in the future. The search for the next Jayvon Gilmore begins.
