Argument in TikTok leads to shooting at Alexandria park, local man arrested in Dumfries
In a shocking turn of events, Samir Ahmad Aria, a 35-year-old man from Dumfries, has been charged in connection with a shooting incident that took place at Ben Brenman Park in Alexandria's West End on July 10.
According to reports, the shooting occurred near the park's soccer field on Brenman Park Drive. The victim, who was playing soccer at the time, reportedly heard six to eight gunshots after Aria made a threat.
Aria is said to have exited a white Cadillac Escalade and started yelling that he was going to kill the victim. He then allegedly fired a round from his gun into the air, causing panic among the park-goers.
The search warrant affidavit details Aria's account of the events leading up to and including the shooting. He claimed that people began to flee, but that some had knives and were still walking in his direction. In an attempt to protect himself, Aria stated that he fired the firearm again and a third time when he got into the car to flee the scene.
APD found a tan handgun with a black holster in the center console of the white Cadillac Escalade. Aria was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, shooting in a public place without injury, and pointing/brandishing a firearm.
It is important to note that these charges are Class 1 misdemeanors, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,500 fine. Aria is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 22.
The name of the prosecutor in the case is not publicly available at this time. The shooting victim was not injured in the incident, and it is unclear if any other individuals were hurt.
