Argentina agreed to award a million-dollar compensation to the multiple murder convict Álvarez, known as "Concheto."

The Argentine government has announced that it will pay an indemnification of USD 11,000 to Guillermo Antonio "Concheto" Álvarez, a notorious multiple murderer. This decision is in compliance with a sentence issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).

Álvarez, who was convicted of the murder of Aranda months after his initial conviction, has a history of violent crimes. He was described as a narcissist and a perverse psychopath by experts and was accused of killing Bernardo Loitegui's son on July 28, 1996.

The IACHR's ruling in the case Álvarez vs. Argentina ordered the Argentine state to conduct a broad review of the sentence issued against it and the imposed penalty. The payment to Álvarez includes USD 1,000 for material damage and USD 10,000 for immaterial damage.

The decree reiterates the obligation to comply with international human rights sentences. It was formally registered in the country with the publication of the decree signed by President Javier Milei, Chief of the Cabinet, Guillermo Francos, Minister of Justice, Mariano Cuño Libarona, Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, and Ambassador Gerardo Werthein.

The expenditure required to comply with this measure will be charged to Jurisdiction 91 - Obligations on behalf of the Treasury. It is important to note that this is not the first time Álvarez has made headlines. He has been involved in various incidents, including a riot in Devoto prison in April 2020, for which he signed an agreement with the Ministry of Justice.

Álvarez, who graduated as a lawyer while incarcerated in Devoto prison, has shown a liking for crime and has even made apologies for his actions. His gang targeted luxury restaurants, including the home of Esso's board member.

Police found clippings from La Nación newspaper featuring Robledo Puch, a serial killer, in his room, raising questions about his connections to other criminal activities. The ruling also ordered the payment of the amounts set in the sentence for damages, both material and immaterial. The payment must be made within a year from the notification, which occurred on November 7, 2023.

However, the background of the IACHR's ruling in the case Álvarez vs. Argentina remains unclear, as there is no specific data available on this topic. Further research may provide more insights into the reasons behind this decision.

Despite the controversial nature of Guillermo Antonio Álvarez, the Argentine government has been ordered by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) to pay him an indemnification of USD 11,000, a decision that stirs debates in the realm of crime-and-justice and politics. The ruling also mandates the Argentine state to conduct a review of Álvarez's sentence and pay damages for material and immaterial losses, raising questions about the general-news and human rights context surrounding this case.
