ARD's Got the Blues for Women's Soccer
Despite the women's soccer team's top ratings on ZDF, ARD can't spare time to broadcast their Nations League match against Wales on Tuesday due to cup matches scheduling conflicts. Horst Hrubesch expresses his disappointment, hoping for more TV exposure for his team.
Unlucky ladies: ARD won't air their Nations League match against Wales live during prime time, as the men's cup matches are scheduled at the same time. Horst Hrubesch, the interim national coach, shares his regret, explaining, "I would have wanted it, especially for the girls. They deserve to be noticed for the quality of soccer they play and the performances they've put in recently."
The German women's team won over Denmark with a 3:0 score in prime time, attracting 4.298 million viewers last Friday. Sadly, their match against Wales won't be shown live on traditional TV due to scheduling conflicts. As Axel Balkausky, ARD sports coordinator explained, "Unfortunately, we cannot have another kick-off time."
The Pressure's On: Qualifying for the Olympics
The DFB women have a chance to advance to the Olympic final round against the struggling outsiders, Wales. With a victory in this final group game, they could secure their spot. Hrubesch's team is eager to recover from the historic World Cup debacle in Australia, and the turmoil surrounding former national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. Klara Bühl, FC Bayern midfielder, explains their motivations, "It's important we focus on ourselves and go into the game at full throttle." Marina Hegering warns, "It's not a walk in the park," having to play without her and Laura Freigang due to suspensions and injuries, respectively.
The Impact of Streaming
As digital streaming becomes more prevalent, traditional TV channels may struggle to find sufficient time slots for all major sports events. Transitioning to live streaming not only offers cost-effective solutions but also allows potential for targeted advertising and wider international reach. While this can bring benefits in terms of exposure, it may also pose challenges, such as accessibility and technical issues. The DFB women's team must adapt to these changes and leverage digital streaming for their competitive edge in the upcoming match against Wales.
