Arctic Blast Freezes Northern U.S. as Dangerous Cold Spreads South
A potent Arctic air mass has swept across the northern U.S., bringing freezing temperatures and severe weather risks. From the Pacific Northwest to the Upper Midwest, communities are facing flooding, high winds, and dangerously low wind chills as the cold front pushes further south and east.
The Arctic blast began moving into the northern U.S. on Saturday, sending temperatures plummeting. In Grand Forks, North Dakota, wind chills dropped to minus-12 degrees, while cold weather advisories stretched as far south as Montgomery, Alabama, where temperatures were forecast to fall to around 22 degrees. The freezing air is expected to spread into Southern states by Sunday.
The Arctic air mass will keep moving south and east, extending freezing conditions into new areas. In the Pacific Northwest, another round of rain and wind could worsen flooding and cause fresh damage. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert as the severe weather pattern continues to bring multiple hazards across affected regions.
