Arctic Blast Brings Freezing Air and Snow to Germany This Week
A sudden blast of Arctic air is heading toward Germany, bringing wintry conditions to parts of the country. The German Weather Service (DWS) has warned that the low-pressure system Talat will push polar air masses southward, causing temperatures to plummet and scattered snowfall in higher areas.
The cold snap is driven by disruptions in the polar vortex and a blocking high-pressure system over the Atlantic. These forces will channel Arctic air into Central Europe, with northern and northwestern Germany expected to feel the strongest effects.
The arrival of polar air will bring a noticeable shift in weather, with freezing temperatures and localised snowfall. Residents in higher elevations, particularly in the Harz region, should take precautions for slippery roads and cold conditions. The cold spell is forecast to last several days before easing.
