Arc'teryx embraces innovation, focusing solely on cutting-edge technical mountain running footwear in 2025.
In an exciting development for outdoor enthusiasts, Arc'teryx is launching the Vertex Speed, a hybrid running shoe designed for technical mountain running and climbing. This innovative footwear combines agility, durability, and support for challenging terrain.
### Key Features and Specifications
The Vertex Speed boasts a rugged Vibram® Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology, offering a durable, surefooted grip across various conditions while minimizing weight. The outsole's lugs are strategically spaced to maximize traction and shed dirt and mud efficiently.
The midsole features a dual-density construction, with softer cushioning in the heel and midfoot areas for comfort, and firmer support at the forefoot to enhance stability during climbing and running. For added foot protection, there's a forefoot TPU film that improves stability on rough terrain.
The upper is made from abrasion-resistant Matryx® woven polyester, a combination of durability and lightweight, breathable flexibility. TPU reinforcement zones protect against rocks and trail debris. The shoe also features a secure lacing system with a tongue pocket to prevent lace bounce, ensuring a locked-in feel without pressure points. The heel area holds the foot firmly to prevent heel lift.
A stretchy, breathable gaiter seals out dirt, pebbles, and moisture, keeping feet clean and dry during fast and technical outings. The Vertex Speed shoe is one of the lightest, weatherproof running shoes of its kind, with an over-ankle gaiter, Gore-Tex invisible fit, custom lugs for tackling mud and snow, and a seamless single-pull lace system.
### Redesigned for Performance
The Vertex Speed shoe was redesigned over hundreds of test models and thousands of miles by Arc'teryx ambassadors. It's a hybrid of mountain running and climbing performance, as stated by Josh Herr, Global Footwear Design. Unlike the Vertex Alpine, which leans slightly more towards approach shoe functions with more climbing-specific features, the Vertex Speed focuses on agility and fast movement across technical terrain while still offering climbing support.
### The Konceal: A Shoe for Heavy-Duty Climbers
Arc'teryx has also introduced the Konceal, an approach shoe designed to withstand heavy use by climber Paul McSorley. The Konceal features a carbon shank for added stability, a Vibram XS Flash 2 outsole for confidence, a nubuck leather upper for breathability, and an improved heel lock to prevent blisters.
The Matryx upper of the Vertex Speed shoe is woven into a flat knit gaiter with a sock-like fit, claimed to be breathable and flexible.
### Availability
The Vertex Speed shoe will be available this April, while the Konceal shoe will be available this fall. The Norvan LD 4, another new style, will be available in March, in both Gore-Tex and non-waterproof versions. The Nivalis, another winterized trail running shoe, is expected to defy expectations of what a winter trail running shoe should be.
Arc'teryx is launching four new footwear styles in 2023, each designed to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts seeking versatile and high-performing footwear for their adventures. The Arc'teryx Vertex Speed offers a lightweight, durable, and versatile shoe optimized for athletes who want to move swiftly on trails and tackle some climbing or scrambling without switching footwear. Its combination of Vibram Megagrip outsole, protective TPU elements, and secure fit makes it suitable for hybrid running and climbing adventures.
