Archbishop Chaput's book launch is set for New York City and Washington D.C.
Archbishop Charles Chaput, the author of the book 'Strangers in a Strange Land: Living the Catholic Faith in a Post-Christian World,' will present his work in New York City and Washington, D.C.
The book, released on Feb 21 by Henry Holt and Co., delves into the challenges faced by Christians in a society that is increasingly moving away from religious affiliation. Archbishop Chaput holds the view that while there are tens of millions of actively practicing Christians in the U.S., the overall trends are not good.
On Feb. 27, Archbishop Chaput will hold a news event in New York City at the Sheen Center, 18 Bleecker Street, Manhattan, at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and the event will include a book signing, comments from the archbishop, and a panel discussion.
A week later, on March 14, Archbishop Chaput will hold another news event in Washington, D.C. at the Catholic Information Center, 1500 K Street NW, at 6:30 p.m. Again, admission is free.
In his book, Archbishop Chaput argues that American culture has undergone a qualitative change from the past and that new understandings of religion and civic life are very different from previous generations. He suggests that Jesus changed the world with 12 very flawed men, and he believes there are enough good men and women with resources to do the same.
Archbishop Chaput also makes it clear that the Christian past was great only insofar as Christians were faithful to Jesus Christ.
