An estimated 200,000 Afghans, once refugees in Pakistan, have been forced to leave since last April following Pakistan's revival of its deportation policy, as delineated by Pakistan's Interior Ministry to AFP.

According to the ministry, a staggering 135,000 people were expelled from Pakistan in April alone. In May, the figure dropped slightly to around 67,000, with an additional 3,000 sent back in the opening days of June.

Over the past several decades, millions of Afghans have sought solace in Pakistan as they aimed to escape the ravages of war. However, after the Taliban seized control of Kabul in 2021 following the withdrawal of US troops, hundreds of thousands of Afghans have subsequently returned to their war-torn homeland.

Despite this development, over one million Afghans have left Pakistan since the repatriation program commenced in 2023, according to the ministry.
