** Brace Yourself! Severe Weather Hits Kazakhstan, Emergency Rescues Underway 🌫️🔥**

Sounds like Kazakhstan is feeling the wrath of Mother Nature! Over the past couple of days, treacherous weather conditions have taken a toll, with blizzards, ice, strong winds, and zero visibility causing chaos on the roads.

The Emergency Committee of Kazakhstan (KEC) has sprung into action, mounting a heroic rescue and evacuation effort to help nearly 700 people when the storm hit. According to Elorda Info, this essential operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan (MESK).

The abnormal weather conditions struck 15 regions, resulting in traffic restrictions being imposed on 62 sections of republican roads and over 65 sections of regional roads.

Kazhydromet reports that 18 storm warnings were issued across the country over the past 24 hours, and it seems these storms will persist for at least another two days. The sheer force of the blizzards and snow drifts have severely hampered visibility, causing massive traffic jams on the highways.

MESK workers, alongside road and medical services, and volunteers have risen to the occasion, providing much-needed assistance to the community. In areas where traffic jams have formed, heated tents have been erected, and food has been organized. Shelters and transport hubs for people and livestock have also been set up in nearby settlements. Operational headquarters and hotlines have been established in 18 regions of the country.

Over these past two days, MESK has carried out an impressive 337 rescue missions, including 131 search and rescue operations. A staggering 685 people have been saved and evacuated, including 40 children, with more than 60 vehicles freed from snow drifts.

MESK employees are relentlessly patrolling difficult road sections using agile vehicles, scouring for abandoned vehicles and offering necessary assistance. Thankfully, there have been no casualties or injuries reported so far. The rescuers continue to work tirelessly, around the clock, to provide aid to the public and maintain road safety.

MESK reminds citizens to prioritize safety, stay informed about storm warnings, and refrain from traveling during these extreme weather conditions. People living in rural areas are advised to steer clear of prolonged walks during these treacherous weather conditions.

Fun fact: Meteorologists predict that temperatures in different regions of Kazakhstan will be normal or hotter than usual during the summer of 2025, although precipitation is expected to be below average in most areas except for the west and northeast[5].
