Approximately 50,000 Israeli reservists will be summoned by the military.
The Israeli army has launched an operation aimed at destroying Hamas's underground tunnel system in the Gaza Strip. The operation, which primarily involves active soldiers, has seen Israeli troops deploy in the suburbs of Gaza City, specifically in the neighbourhoods of Al-Saitun and Djabalija.
The city of Gaza, a stronghold of the Islamist terror organization Hamas, is expected to witness a significant military presence in the coming days as the Israeli army plans to mobilize approximately 50,000 reservists for a potential takeover of Gaza City. In total, around 120,000 reservists will be deployed, with the first wave of reservists expected to begin their service in September.
As part of the operation, civilians in Gaza City will be relocated to tent camps further south. The tent camps are to be located south of Gaza City, and the military is working with international aid organizations to ensure the supply of medical aid, food, and other essentials in these camps.
UN agencies such as UNICEF, OCHA, UNOPS, UNRWA, WFP, and WHO, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), are among the organizations working with the Israeli army to ensure the well-being of civilians in the tent camps. However, many large international NGOs face severe restrictions and denial of permits by Israeli authorities, limiting their ability to deliver aid.
The estimated population of civilians in Gaza City is approximately one million people. The military operation does not primarily involve reservists at this point. Despite the military action, Hamas still retains operational capabilities for guerrilla warfare.
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has been a matter of concern for human rights organizations, who have highlighted a catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the region. The Israeli army's plan involves not only the destruction of Hamas's tunnel system but also the safety and well-being of the civilian population in Gaza City.
Notification letters for the reservists will be sent out in the coming days, marking the next phase of this significant military operation. The Israeli army continues to work closely with international aid organizations to ensure the smooth transition and well-being of the civilians in Gaza City during this challenging time.
