Hit the Brakes: Dubai Police Urges Motorists to Slow Down for Eid Al Adha 2023

Gear up for Eid al Adha, but remember to maintain a steady pace on Dubai's streets. Dubai Police are sending a stern message to motorists – avoid racing the clock during this festive season, lest you turn joyous celebrations into sorrowful tragedy.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, acting commandant assistant for Operations Affairs and acting chairperson of the Dubai Event Security Committee (ESC), issued the warning. He stresses that zipping past speed limits is more dangerous than fireworks – it puts lives at stake, results in severe physical and psychological consequences, and can lead to hefty financial penalties.

To ensure a trouble-free holiday, authorities have rolled out an extensive security plan. Dubai will be under the watchful eyes of 515 security patrols, 130 civil defense vehicles, and two helicopters. Besides, 62 ambulatory stations, 34 marine security boats, and numerous traffic patrols will help manage traffic congestion and provide swift emergency response.

Major General Al Mazroui urged extreme caution for those planning to engage in water sports and outdoor activities. Beachgoers and jet ski enthusiasts should avoid crowded areas and keep a close eye on children, particularly around pools and beaches. Similarly, drivers in desert areas were advised to exercise caution while driving bikes and four-wheel-drive vehicles, and to resist the temptation to speed.

Fireworks were also listed as a big no-no. Families were cautioned against using them, as fireworks can cause injuries, fires, and pose serious threats to property.

To ensure public safety, the Command and Control Centre will be operating 24/7 to manage emergency calls. Residents are encouraged to dial 999 only in emergencies and to use 901 for general inquiries. Violations can also be reported via the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police website.

The transportation network in Dubai will be reinforced with 104 trains, around 30,000 taxis and limousines, 1,240 public buses, and 43 marine transport vehicles to cater to the massive crowd. Moreover, 18 hospitals and clinics will be on standby to offer prompt medical assistance when needed.

As a bonus, the Event Security Committee will organize sports competitions for workers in various areas during the Eid festivities. So, get ready to enjoy Eid safely – on the roads, at the beaches, and in your neighborhood.

Stay Safe this Eid Al Adha!
