Apple TV, the global streaming service, has announced plans to adapt the final book in British author Philip Kerr's successful "Berlin Noir" trilogy for a new crime series titled "Babylon Berlin." The series will be set in the 1920s and is set to star British actor Jack Lowden as the protagonist, Bernie Gunther.

Bernie Gunther, a young police officer, will be the central character in the series, which is based on Kerr's novel "Metropolis." The story unfolds in 1928 Berlin, a time of political turmoil and moral decay. Lowden, who is 35 years old, is no stranger to the screen, having previously made a name for himself in various roles.

The series will follow Bernie Gunther as he is tasked with solving the murder of four prostitutes in "Metropolis." However, it's important to note that this is not the only killing in the book. The murder investigation will take Gunther deep into the underbelly of 1920s Berlin, promising a gripping and suspenseful narrative.

"Babylon Berlin" is a reference to the original successful series, and Hollywood star Tom Hanks is among the producers of the new adaptation. Hanks has previously filmed in Berlin for the movie "Bridge of Spies." The series will be produced by Apple TV, further expanding their growing library of original content.

While no details about the start of production for "Babylon Berlin" have been released yet, fans of the "Berlin Noir" series and crime dramas alike are eagerly awaiting more information. The series promises to deliver a captivating and authentic portrayal of 1920s Berlin, making it a must-watch for any crime drama enthusiast.
