Apple marks an extraordinary milestone in the realm of entertainment

In 2022, Apple continued to push the boundaries of innovation, introducing a host of new features and services that enhanced the user experience across its ecosystem. Here's a roundup of some of the key highlights.

Storage and Privacy Enhancements

With iCloud, customers gained access to additional storage for their information, along with premium features such as iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, custom email domains for iCloud Mail, and expanded support for HomeKit Secure Video recording. iCloud leads the industry in using privacy-preserving security technologies, with two-factor authentication utilized by over 95 percent of iCloud users, and Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, which uses end-to-end encryption to keep users' data secure and under their control.

Photos, Wallet, and Sharing

iCloud Photos made it easy for users to browse, search, and share photos and videos. A new feature allowed users to share eligible keys in Wallet through their favourite messaging apps, such as Messages, Mail, and more. The use of NFC tickets in Wallet across the US and Canada nearly tripled year over year.

Subscription Services and App Store Success

Apple One was introduced as the easiest and best way to get Apple's subscription services in one simple plan at the best value. Developers selling digital goods and services on the App Store have earned over $320 billion since its 2008 launch. The App Store connected over 650 million visitors across 175 regions each week in 2022.

Fitness+ and Apple Pay

Fitness+ announced new ways for users to improve their fitness and overall well-being, including Kickboxing, a new meditation theme, Sleep, and the fifth season of Time to Walk. Apple Pay is now available to millions of merchants in nearly 70 countries and regions, and works with more than 10,000 bank and network partners worldwide. The 2022 holiday shopping season saw a record-breaking number of purchases made using Apple Pay globally.

Apple Maps, Apple TV+, and Apple News

Apple Maps introduced multistop routing, enhanced public transit updates, and detailed, turn-by-turn cycling directions for bike lanes and other bike-friendly routes. Apple TV+ made history as the first streaming service honoured with the Academy Award for Best Picture with CODA. Apple News delivered quality news to millions of people and remained the top news app in the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada.

Podcasts, Tap to Pay, and More

Apple Podcasts Subscriptions offered new premium audio experiences from creators like the economists behind Freakonomics Radio, The Pitch with Josh Muccio, and NPR's daily news program, Up First. Tap to Pay on iPhone empowers merchants across the US to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets with only an iPhone - no additional hardware needed.

Expanding Wallet Offerings and Apple Arcade

Apple expanded its Wallet offerings with the launch of driver's licenses and state IDs in Wallet, which are currently available in Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland, with at least nine more states planned to come. The Apple Arcade catalog expanded with over 50 new titles in 2022, including Warped Kart Racers, Jetpack Joyride 2, Gibbon: Beyond the Trees, Wylde Flowers, and Cooking Mama: Cuisine!

iCloud Shared Photo Library and Apple Music

iCloud Shared Photo Library, introduced in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, enables families to share photos seamlessly using a separate iCloud library that up to six users can collaborate on, contribute to, and enjoy. Apple Music now features over 100 million songs, representing nearly the entire history of recorded music.

Collaborations and Live Sports

Apple TV premiered some of the most celebrated series of the year, including The Afterparty, Bad Sisters, Black Bird, Echo 3, For All Mankind, Loot, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, Pachinko, Slow Horses, Trying, and the 14-time Emmy Award-nominated Severance. Apple made significant moves into live sports, first with the debut of 'Friday Night Baseball' on Apple TV+ and an unprecedented 10-year partnership with Major League Soccer.

Apple Card and BeReal, Apex Legends, and Dot's Home

Apple Card and Goldman Sachs topped the charts in the Midsize Credit Card Issuer segment of the annual J.D. Power U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study for the second consecutive year. Innovative social app BeReal, Apex Legends, and Dot's Home were among the apps that burst onto the scene in 2022.

In a year filled with innovation, Apple once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering superior products and services that enhance the lives of its users.
