Appalachian Mountain Health expands care under Dr. Simpson's bold leadership

Appalachian Mountain Health (AMH) has expanded its services across Western North Carolina under the leadership of President and CEO Dr. Shantelle Simpson. Since taking charge in 2021, the organisation has grown its annual budget from £4 million to £19 million while increasing access to care in multiple areas.

In 2025, AMH made significant strides in women's health, achieving a 62.9% cervical cancer screening rate. The same year saw its dental programme nearly double new patients, reaching almost 2,000 individuals through a mobile initiative.

Pediatrics also expanded, adding 839 new patients and delivering 3,592 visits. Meanwhile, community medicine recorded 2,431 mobile medical visits—an 87% rise from 2024. Pharmacy services supported 1,030 patients through 2,659 clinical visits, contributing an extra £6 million in revenue.

Dr. Simpson's vision for AMH centres on becoming a trusted medical home, providing high-quality, compassionate care. The organisation's growth reflects its deepening role as a key healthcare provider in the region.

AMH's expansion under Dr. Simpson has widened access to medical, dental, and pharmacy services. With a larger budget and rising patient numbers, the organisation continues to solidify its position as a vital healthcare resource in Western North Carolina.
