Tesla's Cybertruck: New Prices and Performance Unveiled

The iconic Cybertruck, introduced nearly four years ago, has finally made its way into the hands of eager customers. Previously, the details about the vehicle's capabilities and costs were still hazy. So, what's the real deal with Tesla's high-tech pickup truck?

customers couldn't contain their excitement as they hopped into their new vehicles at the "delivery event". Yet, the vehicle's true capabilities and prices were still unclear until now.

Elon Musk's Price Promises Fall Short

Initially, Musk announced that the basic version of the Cybertruck would start at $39,900 and deliver a range of 400 kilometers. He even hinted at top-tier models offering a range of 800 kilometers. Sadly, these promises didn't pan out.

The entry-level Cybertruck, featuring rear-wheel drive, now fetches $60,990 (pre-subsidies) instead of the original $39,900 price tag. The first all-wheel drive variant costs $79,990, and the "Cyberbeast"—the high-end version—sets consumers back $99,990. Even the base model won't be available until 2025.

Musk's bold estimates for range also prove to be overly optimistic. The Cyberbeast can only boast a range of roughly 515 kilometers. An optional range extender, occupying a third of the cargo area, could extend its range further, up to 705 kilometers.

Cybertruck Sparking Social Media Frenzy

Despite these setbacks, Tesla's Cybertruck never fails to impress. During the delivery event, the truck was challenged to a quarter-mile drag race against a Porsche 911. To everyone's shock, the Cybertruck surpassed the Porsche's performance and even pulled a Porsche trailer faster than the sports car itself could drive.

In terms of power, the Cyberbeast delivers a whopping 630 kW, equivalent to 857 hp. The all-wheel drive variant is no slouch either, with 607 hp, coming to 100 km/h in less than 4.3 seconds. The base model's speed and power remain uncertain, but it's rumored to zoom from 0-100 km/h within 6.7 seconds.

Another significant feature of the Cybertruck is its remarkable towing capacity. Tesla claims that the Cybertruck can tow a 4,990-kilogram trailer, a crucial aspect for a pickup truck.

Deliveries of the more expensive Cybertruck variants are slated for 2024, but it remains unclear which models were delivered during the "delivery event". Hopefully, those who attended the event received their invoices ahead of time—Tesla has experienced quite a bit of price inflation since their original promise.

A Questionable Future in Europe

Doom and gloom for Europeans hoping to get their hands on the Cybertruck: the current model would require substantial modifications to comply with German regulations. According to Barend Wolf, Head of Vehicle Technology at the German Road Safety Council, the Cybertruck falls short of meeting pedestrian protection requirements in its current state[1][4].
