APGA Leadership Disputes Future Assurances to Tinubu: Chekwas Okorie Criticizes Soludo Over Implied Commitments

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) seems to be all aboard the Bola Tinubu train for the 2027 presidential election, as reported by our sources. During Tinubu's recent visit to Anambra State, the governor, Charles Soludo, promised the president that APGA would officially adopt him as their presidential candidate in 2027.

However, not everyone is on the same page within APGA. Chekwas Okorie, the founding National Chairman, spoke out against Soludo's promise, arguing that he lacks the authority to commit the party to such a monumental decision.

In an interview with the press, Okorie voiced his disappointment with Soludo's action. He stated that while it was fitting for Soludo to boast about his accomplishments, he overstepped his bounds in promising APGA's support for Tinubu without consulting the rest of the party leadership.

Okorie went on to cite the example of Rochas Okorocha, who similarly overreached in claiming that APGA had joined the APC merger in 2013. He insisted that Soludo lacks the capacity to make such a commitment on behalf of APGA.

Despite Okorie's objections, it appears that APGA's leadership and key members, including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and APGA Board of Trustees member, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, have expressed their commitment to President Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Ojukwu described Tinubu's visit to Anambra as a demonstration of his inclusive leadership and confirmed that she has no plans to defect from APGA despite her role in the APC-led federal government.

In sum, while there may be discordant voices within APGA, the dominant narrative from its leading figures remains one of support for Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid. The party's alignment with the federal government's progressive agenda seems to be an important factor in this decision, as it could help APGA maintain its political relevance and influence.
