APC Leader Defends Tinubu Against Allegations of Insecurity Responsibility
In an interview with the Daily Independent, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Akande, has deflected blame from President Bola Tinubu regarding the ongoing insecurity in the country. Akande asserts that certain self-serving interests amongst Nigerian stakeholders are indirectly fuelling the unrest.
The former lawmaker from the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly argued that President Tinubu cannot single-handedly tackle security issues across the nation due to geographical constraints. According to Akande, the federal government possesses the capacity and the will to suppress the bandits, yet they are being shielded by religious and linguistic sentiments.
In his words, "President Bola Tinubu should not be blamed for the escalating insecurity, due to our collective ignorance and indecision. It is not feasible for the President to personally secure every state; we are the architects of our circumstances."
Akande further criticized the public's response to government actions against criminal elements, pointing out instances where citizens criticized the federal government's efforts to enforce law and order, such as the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and attempts to address troublemakers in certain regions.
He referenced the controversy surrounding the killing of suspected kidnappers in Uromi, Edo State, and the public outcry over the ensuing justice, as well as the killing of a man who defended himself against kidnappers, who was later sentenced to death, as evidence of this trend.
"We know who these individuals are, yet we fail to provide the necessary information to the security agencies, either out of religious or linguistic affiliation, or due to family involvement in the atrocities," Akande stated.
The APC Lagos chieftain commended President Tinubu's efforts to revitalize the economy, noting the economic downturn the country experienced prior to his tenure. He urged Nigerians to support the President's initiatives, emphasizing that although the policies may cause temporary hardships, they would eventually lead to economic growth.
