APC Unphased by Political Opposition, Says Spokesman

APC Entitled to Address Critics; Coalition Matter Poses No Sleepless Nights for Morka (Paraphrased)

Felix Morka, the official spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asserted that it would be undemocratic to expect the ruling party to remain silent in the face of criticism from opposition parties and politicians.

According to our sources, Morka shared these sentiments during a recent interview, expressing that the APC and President Bola Tinubu are not troubled by the coalition talks among some politicians and parties.

During the interview with News Central, Morka highlighted the 2023 election where candidates such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and President Tinubu competed. He noted that Tinubu's victory, close to two years on, demonstrates that no coalition or movement, even one led by Patrick Utomi, can compromise the APC or President Tinubu's hold on power.

"Utomi is known for creating systems and experiments that haven't materialized. It's the truth. That's his style. Utomi is a great guy. We're friends, so there's nothing exceptional about what he's doing now that he didn't do before. The coalition he attempted to create prior to the 2023 election didn't impact the election outcome. Peter Obi ran the election. YOU KNOW, ASIWAJU, who is the president today, President Bola Tinubu, won the election," Morka stated.

Freedom of Response

Morka emphasized that requiring the ruling party to remain quiet in response to unfounded criticism against the President and the party is unrealistic in a democratic framework. He affirmed that the APC has the democratic right to contest false claims made by opposition parties and politicians.

"People may think that because the APC is the ruling party, we should stay mum when critics speak and take action. That is not how a democracy works. In the opposition, when you speak and advocate positions, especially when you begin to spew divisive, misleading rhetoric, the ruling party also has the democratic right and liberty to respond. But when you see a response, people say we're in a panic or we're trying to stifle. THAT'S NOT TRUE," Morka asserted.

Thriving Democracy in Nigeria

Morka also saw Utomi's declaration of a shadow government as evidence of democracy thriving in Nigeria. Despite the positions of some opposition politicians, Morka believes the country’s democracy is robust, citing Utomi's declaration as an example of its resilience.

"As a matter of fact, in how many democracies would you find someone like Patrick Utomi proclaiming a shadow government and naming a shadow cabinet without making a big fuss, without anyone really losing sleep? Utomi's declaration, by itself, I think, is eloquent testimony that our democracy is completely thriving. It's flourishing." Morka added.
