Former Jigawa Governor Suggests Goodluck Jonathan as PDP's Best Bet for 2027 Presidential Election

In a recent interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, has advocated for Goodluck Jonathan as the most suitable candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 presidential election.

Lamido, a key figure in the PDP, believes that if the presidency is given to the party, Jonathan is the one who is willing to listen and work in partnership. He praises the former president for his understanding of governance complexities and his ability to work with diverse political actors.

Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, is currently not affiliated with any political party. However, his name has been circulating in political circles, with persistent speculation about his possible return to the PDP to seek the presidency in 2027.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, for his recent departure from the APC and joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The APC advises against taking people seriously who speak loudly but fail to address the emptiness beneath their words. They compare El-Rufai to someone who points fingers at others while ignoring their own faults.

El-Rufai left the APC in March 2025 to join the SDP, citing ideological alignment and political strategy aimed at challenging the APC’s dominance. However, his membership caused significant discord within the SDP, leading to his expulsion from the party by mid-2025.

Lamido calls on the PDP to make deliberate moves to bring Goodluck Jonathan back, highlighting his experience, leadership record, and collaborative style as reasons for his suitability for the presidency.
