Hey there! Let's chat about a peculiar New Year's Eve incident that happened in Berlin, starring an influencer.
In the midst of the Berlin Regional Court trial, the accused social media star openly expressed remorse. His counsel, Axel Czapp, explained on the trial's second day that his client hadn't anticipated any damage could ensue. This was his first time setting off a New Year's Eve firework, and his primary concern was ensuring his and his mates' safety. He assumed the fireworks would soar skyward, not crash into an apartment.
TheProsecution: A Blatant Disregard for Safety
However, the prosecution is not so forgiving. They've accused the influencer of reckless behavior, charging him with arson, attempted dangerous bodily harm, and property damage. Allegedly, this stunt was performed "for personal gain and total disregard" into an apartment in Berlin-Neukölln, which was then shared on his Instagram account.
The post on his account, boasting over 310,000 followers, garnered over six million views in no time. Unfortunately, it was only removed after more than 36 hours. Even after its deletion, users on the X platform continued to share it. The public outrage was palpable. The influencer eventually extended an apology to the victims.
The Big Catch
On January 4, the defendant was apprehended at the capital's BER airport as he attempted to depart Germany. Since then, the 23-year-old from the West Bank has been in custody due to a risk of flight.
As of now, it's uncertain when a verdict will be reached in this trial. The court had initially planned trial dates extending up to April 16.
