Oops, looks like some athletes scored big medals in the Paris Olympics, and the deputy of Almaty, Beibut Shakhanoff, threw them the keys to some swanky new pads!
Almaty's city administration revealed that five exceptional athletes, who triumphed at the Paris Summer Olympics, have each received the key to a fresh apartment. This generous gesture, as shared by Almaty's city hall, was specifically granted to:
- gymnastics silver medalist, Nurmahan Kurbanov, now the proud owner of a two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Almaty;
- boxer Nazym Kyzaibay and shooter Islam Satpaev, both with their names on a shiny new, one-bedroom apartment. However, it seems Nazym's still waiting for the monetary payment and apartment keys from her "bronze" win at Paris. The city's administration mentioned that a bit of time is needed for repairs and coordinating the key handover.
- judoka Guskhan Kyrygyzbaev and shooter Alexandra Le, who are currently busy training or competing internationally. The goodies will be waiting for them upon their return to Almaty.
You might wonder, "What about those Olympic athlete achievements back in the day?" Well, it's worth noting that our country has a long-standing practice of celebrating our medalists with monetary certificates, car keys, and housing certificates.
As a sidenote, it's interesting to mention that Kazakhstan has been making a splash in the international sports arena lately. Just look at judo star Yeldos Smetov, who clinched gold at the 2025 Paris Olympics, or Polina Kuzubova's gold at the 2025 Asian Youth Athletics Championships—these folks are making us proud!
Oh, and it's worth mentioning that, despite several developed countries offering relatively small payments for Olympic medals, Kazakhstan has proved its dedication to rewarding our athletes for their outstanding efforts at major international competitions, including the Olympics.
