"AOC Challenges Tom Homan Following Threat of Department of Justice Referral Over Deportations: 'I'm Ready for You'"
Hitting Back at Homan: AOC Claps Back at Border Czar After Threat Over Immigration Aid
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, takes a jab at Tom Homan following his threat to refer her to Justice Department over helping immigrants
In Queens, NY, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, sent a clear message to border czar Tom Homan during a recent town hall meeting. This came after Homan hinted at reporting her to the Justice Department for offering guidance to immigrants on how to avoid deportation[1].
Ocasio-Cortez told the audience that she wasn't afraid of Homan's words following her office hosting a "Know Your Rights" webinar in February. Homan suggested her actions could be illegal, impeding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from carrying out the Trump administration's mass deportations.
"Tom Homan said he was going to refer me to DOJ because I'm using my free speech rights in order to advise people of their constitutional protections. To that I say: Come for me, do I look like I care?" Ocasio-Cortez remarked to a cheering crowd[1].

Despite Homan's threats, Ocasio-Cortez asserted that there's "nothing illegal about it" and if they wanted to make it illegal, they could come take her.
During the webinar, Ocasio-Cortez's office advised migrants in her district about their rights if they were encountered by ICE agents. People were recommended to ask for warrants, record searches if ICE came calling and given tips on how to differentiate between different warrants ICE agents are likely to carry[1].
This led Homan to suggest that the New York Democrat might have stepped over a line[1]. "I'm working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now," he said after the event.
"What she needs to do is read the statutes enacted by Congress... because it's a crime to enter this country illegally," Homan added separately on "Sunday Morning Futures"[2].
"Not only that, but when you harbor and conceal and impede law enforcement, that's a felony. What she's doing, she says she's educating everybody on their constitutional rights, and we all know they've got constitutional rights, but what she's really doing... she's trying to teach them how to evade law enforcement," Homan said[2].
Ocasio-Cortez also used the town hall to criticize the Trump administration's border security policy and immigration approach, referring to its Venezuelan gang member deportations as "sanctioned kidnappings."
"I don't even want to call them deportations. They are sanctioned kidnappings in many circumstances," the congresswoman said[2].
Ocasio-Cortez attended a packed auditorium full of hundreds of attendees, with those who couldn't get in watching in an overflow room across the hall[3]. Most questions from the audience revolved around local issues, calls for minimum wage hikes, and air quality improvements, as well as her plans for facing the Trump administration[3].
The loudest applause came when Ocasio-Cortez expressed her opposition to a proposed new casino at Citi Field, which would be part of a new sports and entertainment park. Despite gaining approval from the New York City Council, the congresswoman argued that she doesn't have a say in the matter since it's a state issue and not within her district[3].
The event was generally uneventful except for an early disturbance by a protester who began shouting about the "genocide" in Gaza[3].
"I am a healthcare worker and I want to know what you're doing about the genocide in Gaza," the protester shouted at the congresswoman[3].
