Antonio Banderas dismisses the thought of retiring at age 65
In a recent interview with Spanish daily El País, Antonio Banderas, the renowned actor known for his roles in The Mask of Zorro, Desperado, and Philadelphia, expressed his commitment to staying active in the entertainment industry. The 65-year-old actor, who began his acting career in the 1980s, has no plans to slow down.
Banderas is currently busy running a theater he opened in his hometown of Malaga, Spain, in 2019. Apart from his theater endeavours, he is involved in multiple film projects, including a thriller titled "Above and Below" and a biopic about the late chef Anthony Bourdain.
"Above and Below", a project announced in 2024, is expected to be released in 2025. Though details about the thriller are scarce, it is one of several films anticipated for the year. Banderas recently traveled to Spain's Canary Islands to work on this project.
Regarding the Bourdain biopic, there is currently no verified connection between Banderas and the project. Despite numerous sources mentioning Banderas's involvement in various film projects, a direct link to the Bourdain biopic remains unsubstantiated.
Banderas's acting career has taken him to different locations, including Boston, where he spent part of the summer filming the biopic. It's worth noting that Banderas suffered a heart attack in 2017, but he mentioned that his doctors have given him the green light to continue working, despite possibly doing things he shouldn't be doing.
In addition to his film projects, Banderas has also taken up a new hobby: music theory. He has purchased a piano for himself and has started taking classes online. Despite turning 65, Banderas believes that the age of retirement is no longer applicable. He stated, "At 20, I thought 65-year-olds walked with a cane. Now, I'm 65 and I don't."
