Anton Corbijn to Receive Icon Award at Abbey Road Music Photography Awards

Anton Corbijn, one of the most influential music photographers in history, will be presented with the Icon Award at this year's Abbey Road Music Photography Awards. The ceremony, a significant event in the music photography industry, is set to take place on October 2nd, 2025, at Abbey Road.

Corbijn, who moved to London in 1979 to pursue his passion for music, has worked with a diverse range of clients, including U2, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Cameron Diaz, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Joni Mitchell, and Robert De Niro. His work is renowned for capturing the authenticity and inner beauty of his subjects through his signature high-contrast black-and-white style.

Notable musicians that Corbijn has photographed throughout his career include U2, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Ian Curtis (of Joy Division), Bryan Adams, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, and Grace Jones. His work spans iconic figures in music history, reflecting a deep connection with his subjects, often highlighting imperfections and emotional depth rather than polished celebrity images.

This year, the awards will introduce two new categories, Portrait and Festivals, in addition to the Icon Award and all other category awards. Last year, the awards drew over 22,000 entries from 30 different countries, a testament to the growing importance of the event in the music photography industry.

Tom Pallant, a previous winner and now judge of the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards, was recently interviewed about his expectations for this year's awards. Kalum Carter, a photographer, filmmaker, creative director, and writer, who focuses on photography books, curation, and photo editing, will also be involved in the awards.

The awards focus solely on the genre of music photography, providing a platform for photographers to showcase their work and be recognised for their contributions to the industry. For more information about the awards, visit the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards website.

Corbijn began photographing musicians with his father's camera while still in high school. His long-term collaborations notably include U2 and Depeche Mode, and his portraits have encapsulated both the fame and vulnerability of musicians.

Joining previous Icon winners Henry Diltz and Jill Furmanovsky, Corbijn is set to make a significant impact at this year's awards. The event is expected to feature great photography, following the success of the previous year.
