Antifa to be labelled as a significant terroristic entity by Trump
In a controversial move, President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social account on Wednesday that he will designate Antifa as a 'major terrorist organization.'
Antifa, short for 'anti-fascist,' is a decentralized movement without a designated leader, membership, or structure. The movement claims to oppose fascism, white supremacy, and far-right extremism. However, the president has accused Antifa participants of being 'professional agitators,' engaging in doxxing, violence, and intimidation.
Undercover journalist Cameron Higby reported that Antifa stopped drivers and demanded them to say 'F--- ICE' and lit fires under cars of drivers who wouldn't comply. Alleged killer Tyler Robinson's bullet casings had engravings that included 'Hey fascist! Catch!' and 'Bella ciao bella ciao ciao,' a phrase popularized by anti-fascist songs.
Potentially affected organizations by Trump's classification include various decentralized Antifa networks, associated activist groups, and their financial supporters. Due to Antifa's loose, non-centralized structure, legally targeting it is complex, and state funding programs tied to democratic engagement that may indirectly support related groups could also be impacted.
The president stated that Antifa's actions are not protests, but crimes such as throwing bricks at ICE and Border Patrol cars. He added he will be 'strongly recommending' that those funding Antifa be thoroughly investigated.
President Trump's announcement comes amidst the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, which was linked to 'radical' far-left activism by the president. The president advocated for a non-violent response to Kirk's death, something Kirk himself advocated for throughout his career.

President Trump described a 'radical left group of lunatics' and stated that he wants to solve the problem. The designation of Antifa as a 'major terrorist organization' is expected to escalate tensions between the president and his critics on the left.
