Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" Embraces Rock Music in Second Part of Trilogy
Beyoncé, the global superstar, recently shared a video on Instagram that has fans buzzing about her upcoming music. The video, featuring Beyoncé in various outfits including riding a horse and driving off on a motorcycle, offers a glimpse into the genre-bending style of her second album in a planned trilogy.
Entitled "Cowboy Carter," the album is scheduled for release in 2024, following her 2022 album Renaissance (Act I), which focused on dance and club music. According to reports, Cowboy Carter is characterised primarily as a genre-blending country album with influences of country pop, outlaw country, western, and Americana. It also incorporates rock and roll, rhythm and blues, folk, hip-hop, psychedelic soul, and bluegrass, effectively blending many Southern U.S. music styles.
The album concept revolves around celebrating Black pioneers in American music and culture and is presented like a radio broadcast featuring iconic country voices. It collaborates with numerous Black country and rock artists, and features acoustic-driven instrumentation by legendary musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Gary Clark Jr., known for their blues and rock styles.
The video, shared by Beyoncé's entertainment company, has sparked much speculation among fans. Some are particularly intrigued by the motorcycle scene, which seems to hint at the album's rock influences. However, no details have been revealed about the planned third album in Beyoncé's trilogy.
Beyoncé is currently touring in support of Cowboy Carter with the "Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour" beginning in April 2025, emphasising the country and eclectic style of this act. Fans eagerly await the release of Cowboy Carter in 2024, as they continue to speculate about the direction of Beyoncé's next album.
