Anticipation stirs for probable third season of 'Big Little Lies', as David E. Kelley hints at potential continuation

Cracking the Code on Monterey's Enigma

David E. Kelley, the mastermind behind thenemesis of Sunday nights, Big Little Lies, is chasing the dream of a third season revival. In an exclusive spill to PEOPLE, Kelley gushed about the encouraging conversations surrounding the much-anticipated continuation of this HBO juggernaut.

"You know, we're locking eyes with the promise of another ride," Kelley shared at the Gotham TV Awards on Monday, June 2, beaming with vigor. "Everyone is crushing on the concept of bringing this tale back to life, which was originally seasoned nearly six years ago." He added, "I'm rooting for it to rain again."

Although the script for a third season is yet to be set in stone, none of the original powerhouse performers - Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, or Zoë Kravitz – have inked their contracts, Kelley reveals hopes are running high.

"We're hustling to tame the wild stallions of exceptional talent and their representation," he explained. "But guess what? The desire to paly again doesn't appear to be waning."

Basking in the limelight of accolades, such as the Visionary Tribute for Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent, Kelley found it "quite refreshing" to hear his cast is eager to rejoin the fray. He also knighted author Liane Moriarty, whose brainchild the series bloomed from.

"In a grand floral arrangement of talents, I have to shower praise upon Liane Moriarty too," he said. "Otherwise, there wouldn't be another book for season three. It's the sweet smell of success."

Ever the realist, Kelley acknowledged that the process is still in its infancy, with no brainstorming sessions on the horizon.

"We haven't mapped out the journey, but when we do, I have a hunch we'll figure our way through the labyrinth of twist and turns," he said confidently.

The buzz for season three started to ripple back in 2023 when Nicole Kidman sent shockwaves through the fanbase with tantalizing whispers of a third installment.

"Let's get real – this bomb dropped before, and I had to eat my words after the 'ring, ring' of disbelief," Reese Witherspoon chuckled to Vanity Fair, reminiscing about Kidman's premature spill. She added, "Then it was Laura, Zoë, and Shailene on the line, all whispering, 'Nic said we're making Big Little Lies 3.'"

With an engaged and experienced cast, Moriarty's latest literary offering beckoning the narrative forward, fans may not have to hibernate too long before another enticing escapade to Monterey.

  1. "If the third season of 'Big Little Lies' materializes, the world might be eager to rejoin the captivating tale that David E. Kelley is chasing."
  2. "As the cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz, seem eager to return, 'us' might soon be witnessing another gripping series from 'movies-and-tv' and entertainment."
  3. "Liane Moriarty, the author behind the series, is crucial to any further installments, as her latest literary offering could potentially be the narrative for the next season."
