Anticipation for Taking a Swing with the New Cobra Mini Driver

Hey there! You've probably seen the buzz around town about various brands cooking up their unique versions of a brand-spanking-new club type recently dubbed as the 'mini-driver.' PXG's got its Secret Weapon, Titleist the GT280, Callaway's got the Elyte mini-driver, and TaylorMade's latest addition is the nostalgic R7 Quad.

Recently, social media has been abuzz with posts from various pro tours featuring what appears to be Cobra's upcoming contribution to the mini-driver market, the King-Tec. Thanks to some sweet in-hand footage from SMS on Tour, we get a sneaky peek at what this bad boy might look like if it hits the retail scene soon.

From what we can tell in the video, the King-Tec incorporates the fresh FutureFit33 loft sleeve and offers interchangeable front and back weights to tailor your launch and spin requirements. It's a bit tricky to get a good look, but it seems most comparable to the TaylorMade R7 Quad in both size and overall shape. The crown's clean and simple, just like we've come to expect from Cobra since the Darkspeed and DS-Adapt ranges.

The video suggests the King-Tec includes the same multi-material crown we've seen in the DS-Adapt range, with a tiny banner strip along the top edge that blends in nicely, don't you think?

The Instagram post features a 13.5° loft, so if it ever makes it to the shelves, it will be interesting to see if Cobra offers it in other loft settings. Unlike PXG and Titleist, which only offer their mini-drivers in 13°, TaylorMade and Callaway give you the option of either 13.5° or 11.5°, which is much preferred by higher-swing-speed players like us.

Based merely on its good looks (I'm shallow, I know!), I can't wait to get my hands on this King-Tec mini-driver for a test run. I adored the flexibility of FutureFit33 when it launched, especially its ability to uncouple loft, lie, and face angle, so to see it in a mini-driver is thrilling.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the Cobra staff players' bags at the upcoming US Open, where a venue like Oakmont demands precision tee shots, a mini-driver might just be what Cobra's tour players are after.

Stay tuned for any official word from Cobra regarding technology, launch dates, and pricing.

The Cobra King-Tec mini-driver, with its FutureFit33 loft sleeve and adjustable weights, may provide an intriguing alternative for golfers seeking precision in their tee shots, much like the challenges presented by a venue like Oakmont. If the King-Tec mini-driver ever debuts on the retail scene, it could potentially revolutionize the golfing world, similar to how sports innovations can change the game. In the realm of sports, golf and its latest mini-drivers continue to drive progress and captivate enthusiasts worldwide.
