The curtain is about to fall on Thomas Müller's spellbinding tenure at FC Bayern, culminating in the Club World Cup. But where does the maverick go from here? Jürgen Klinsmann has a clear vision in mind.
Müller spent his downtime hitting the links, hanging with buds, or accompanying his missus Lisa to a equestrian show — and naturally, the 35-year-old contemplated his future. With Bayern, Müller will don the red jersey for the last time at the Club World Cup (June 14 to July 13) in the States. As most superstars are busy with their national squads, training for the titanic tournament begins with a skeleton crew consisting of Müller and Jamal Musiala.
"America bound," Müller penned in his newsletter, "adds a dash of excitement. Maybe we can start a mini football frenzy, especially with the 2026 World Cup in mind. I see a lot of potential for football in the USA. Here's to finding out!"
Müller: Football's perpetual motion machine?
Rumors swirling for a while claim that Müller may leap into the Major League Soccer (MLS)after the Club World Cup. LAFC, Bayern's partner club, is said to be absolute fans of the 13-time German champion. Other clubs like Cincinnati, San Diego, and Dallas have also thrown their hats in the ring.
"America would go wild if he kept playing for another couple of years, that would be a massive coup for the MLS," said Jürgen Klinsmann, a California resident. Müller would be "the poster boy of the league" alongside superstar Lionel Messi. The USA, according to the former national team coach, is "the epicenter of the football cosmos" until next summer's World Cup. With Müller at the center?
For now, Müller is tight-lipped about his intentions. His focus is on his final act with Bayern at the Club World Cup, goosing up against Auckland, Benfica Lisbon, and Boca Juniors. "That's what kicks the football spirit into high gear," said Müller. "I've always loved team tournaments like the World Cup, Euros, or the Club World Cup because of the intense camaraderie over four to six weeks. You're shoulder to shoulder, there are rough moments, but it's always a whirlwind!"
A whirlwind that Müller doubtless craves to win, with a record-breaking $110 million in FIFA prize money up for grabs for the tournament's inaugural winner. If Müller pulls off the last great feat, he'll leap above buddy Toni Kroos as the most decorated German footballer with 35 titles. But that's not all — there might be more titles in store.

The maverick, Thomas Müller, might be considering a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) after the Club World Cup 2025, potentially joining forces with LAFC, Bayern Munich's partner club. Jürgen Klinsmann, who resides in the USA, believes Müller would be a significant addition and a possible poster boy for the league, given the potential growth of sports like football in America.
As the Club World Cup approaches, Müller's initial focus lies with FC Bayern Munich, aiming to win the tournament and potentially secure a record-breaking 35th title, surpassing long-time friend Toni Kroos as the most decorated German footballer. However, the future beyond the Club World Cup remains uncertain for the 13-time German champion.
