In Anchorage, Alaska, the much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin concluded without any deal or ceasefire agreement regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Despite nearly three hours of talks, Putin made no concessions and continued military actions during the meeting. Trump expressed hope but acknowledged "we didn’t get there" on halting the war.

Both leaders expressed interest in additional meetings, possibly in Moscow, but no firm commitments were made. Putin flattered Trump publicly, suggesting that if Trump had been president in 2022, the Ukraine war might not have started, indicating a generally "good, businesslike and trustworthy contact" between them.

Trump, while praising Putin, remained skeptical about the discussions' progress: "No deal until there’s a deal," and highlighted a mix of agreement and unresolved issues. After the summit, Trump announced efforts to arrange a bilateral meeting between Putin and Ukraine's President Zelenskyy, though Russian officials later downplayed readiness for such a summit without a clear agenda.

Trump communicated dissatisfaction with the ongoing war and pending decisions on measures like sanctions or tariffs on Russia, to be clarified within weeks after the summit.
