Anticipating the Impact of Promotions on San Francisco Giants Performance
Giants Call Up Rookie Drew Gilbert
The San Francisco Giants have made a roster move, calling up rookie outfielder Drew Gilbert from Triple-A Sacramento. This move comes as a result of the placement of Jerar Encarnacion on the 10-day injured list.
Drew Gilbert, a 24-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder, was originally a first-round draft pick by the Houston Astros in 2022. He honed his skills at the University of Tennessee, where he gained a strong reputation for his batting, versatility, and defensive skills.
Gilbert joined the Giants as part of a trade with the New York Mets. On July 30, 2025, the Giants traded their longtime reliever Tyler Rogers to the Mets in exchange for pitching prospects José Buttó and Blade Tidwell, and outfielder Drew Gilbert, who was the Mets' No. 12 prospect at the time.
Gilbert made his MLB debut in early August 2025 against the Washington Nationals, impressing fans with a notable sliding catch despite still searching for his first major league hit. The Giants have not announced any further roster changes due to Jerar Encarnacion's injury.
The Giants have not specified the nature of Drew Gilbert's position or role on the team. To make room for Gilbert, outfielder Daniel Johnson was designated for assignment.
As Gilbert begins his tenure with the Giants, he brings a promising future and a strong work ethic. Fans are eager to see how he will contribute to the team's success.
