Rockin' on the Elbe: Dixieland Festival Dresden Returns for another Roaring Good Time!

Massive Attendance Anticipated at Dresden Dixieland Festival by Tens of Thousands of Enthusiasts - Anticipates Large Crowds: Dixieland Festival Dresden

Get your dancing shoes ready, jazz enthusiasts! The International Dixieland Festival in Dresden is set to attract hundreds of thousands of fans for its 53rd edition. Starting Sunday, Dresden will once again establish itself as the European "capital of Dixieland" with 42 bands and soloists from seven countries gracing the stages.

With a whopping 277 hours of jazz music set to fill the streets and squares of Dresden, the organizer has announced an exciting lineup. A total of 48 concerts are planned across various stages, ensuring there's plenty of toe-tappin', fist-pumpin' music goodness to go around!

Just before the festival began, concerns about potential terror threats and the city's increased security requirements brought on additional costs of 120,000 euros for the organizers. To avoid disaster, adjustments had to be made, and a deficit of 60,000 euros was accepted. However, the show must go on, and voluntary entry will be sought at the open-air stages.

As the festival unfolds, organizers are urging political decision-makers to share responsibilities for anti-terror measures, financial support, and regulation of liability issues. Hoping to ensure the festival's future, they believe the state should shoulder these burdens. Although the number of stages for the Jazz Mile on Prager Street has temporarily decreased, almost all bands will still perform there.

More than just a jazz festival, the Dixieland Dresden has been a beacon of peace and joy for 52 years. It offers a diverse program geared towards kids, families, music buffs, dancers, party-goers, and people with disabilities. Highlights include the always-entertaining Riverboat Shuffle on the Elbe steamers and the final street parade of the bands.

Fancy yourself a bit of a Gatsby? Button up your dress and join the "1923 Prohibition Party" on May 17, featuring the Norwegian band "Swing'it". Old-timey attire in the style of the 1920s/1930s is encouraged for this not-to-be-missed event!

To top things off, the Blue Wonder Jazzband will celebrate their 50th birthday, and the Elb Meadow Ramblers will bring down the house with their 70th birthday concert.

The Dixieland Festival Dresden has been a fixture on the jazz scene since 1971, and it's no wonder why! From its humble beginnings with six bands in the Kulturpalast to becoming the biggest and longest-standing Dixieland festival in Europe, the event has grown into a massive folk festival that even kids can get into! The "Dixieland ABC for Children" concert is just one example of the commitment to engaging younger generations in the love of traditional jazz music.
