Sweltering Summer Ahead for Baden-Württemberg: Temperatures Eye 104°F
Scorching Temperatures Approach: Forecast Predicts Nearly 40-Degree Highs - Anticipated Warm Spell: Forecast indicates temperatures nearing 40 degrees.
Hey there! Buckle up as Baden-Württemberg braces itself for a scorching heatwave! According to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures in the coming days could reach an almost unbearable 104°F, especially on Wednesday. Expect temperatures reaching 102°F in the Kraichgau and lower Neckar region near Mannheim.
Even the mountains won't be an escape, with temperatures hovering around 87°F expected, says a DWD meteorologist. On the Feldberg, Baden-Württemberg's highest peak, temperatures will reach a sizzling 77°F. "The temperatures are already exceptionally high for early July," the expert explains.
The heat begins to build - local severe weather risk
Monday starts off relatively calm but hot, with widespread sunshine and temperatures soaring over 86°F. In areas around Mannheim and Karlsruhe, temperatures could reach up to 97°F, while Stuttgart might hit 93°F. The DWD advises heat stress could be a factor early in the week.
For the southern Black Forest and southwestern Swabian Alb, thunderstorms with heavy rain (over 30 liters per square meter), hail, and gusty winds are expected from the afternoon on. "It's not one stationary thunderstorm cell," the meteorologist warns; they form locally and repeatedly.
Beat the Heat: July Record Possible but Unlikely to be Broken
Temperatures are forecasted to reach up to 100°F in the Mannheim area on Tuesday, with tropical nights expected, with temperatures not dropping below 68°F. "The most comfortable temperatures will still be in Upper Swabia and the Allgäu, where you can ventilate at night at 57°F," the DWD meteorologist adds.
It'll be a real sweater on Wednesday, but the 104°F mark is unlikely to be reached. The current July heat record of 102°F for Baden-Württemberg was set on July 25, 2019, in Waghäusel-Kirrlach. The expert doesn't expect this record to be broken, but a close call is always possible!
