Anticipated Suspensions in Dusseldorf: Speed Violations on Oberkasseler Bridge Likely to Lead to Racers' Disqualifications
On Luegallee near the Oberkassel Bridge, a new 30 km/h speed limit has been enforced since June 9, 2023. Despite this, traffic authorities in Düsseldorf reported a disconcerting number of speeding violations during an evening check on August 23.
Over two and a half hours, police arrested 40 drivers for speeding, with five facing suspension of their driving licenses. The highest offender, a 28-year-old resident of Siegen, exceeded the bridge's maximum limit of 50 km/h by a staggering 56 km/h on a BMW, incurring a €560 fine and a two-month driving ban.
Joining the speed demon was another motorist who was clocked at 102 km/h, followed by two more drivers at 92 km/h and 88 km/h. All four will have their licenses revoked and must pay a fine, and an additional two points will be added to their Flensburg driving records.
Reducing accidents and enhancing safety is the primary reason for implementing a 30 km/h limit in urban areas. To access real-time data or recent reports on local speeding statistics and penalties, contact the local traffic authority, check local news outlets, or visit official government websites.
In the city of Düsseldorf, the new lifestyle embraced by some drivers on Luegallee, characterized by disregarding car-maintenance and speeding, has led to a series of speeding violations, even under the enforced 30 km/h limit. This disregard for rules, as shown by the 40 drivers arrested and the highest offender's 56 km/h above the limit in a BMW, jeopardizes not only their car-maintenance but also their participation in sports, as repeated offenses could result in suspended driving licenses.
