Anticipated Sunny Weekend in Baden-Württemberg: Culinary Professionals Optimistic - Select Outdoor Pools Remain Open

Headline: Baden-Württemberg Enjoys Late Summer Weather While Caterers and Winemakers Face Challenges

Baden-Württemberg is set to experience a warm and sunny weekend, according to the weather forecast, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C in the Upper Rhine Valley on Friday. Meanwhile, the winemakers in the region's rural areas are focusing on a 'turbo harvest' due to the warm temperatures, as it's no longer about improving quality but about harvesting quickly before fungus strikes at night. Most of the grapes have already been harvested.

The mood in the hotel and restaurant industry, however, is not good. The turnover of caterers in the first half of the year decreased by 6.2 percent, according to data from the state statistical office. The season for outdoor pools was worse, with visitor numbers often significantly lower than in the previous year. Most outdoor pools are already closed, but exceptions exist, such as in Freiburg and Mainz.

Aquamarin beach in Wasserburg, Aquastaad beach and indoor pool in Immenstaad, Frei- and Seebad Fischbach in Friedrichshafen, the beach in the Überlingen district of Nußdorf, West and Ost beaches in Überlingen, and Bodman beach in the Konstanz district are still open for swimming this weekend. Some outdoor destinations like Lake Constance and the Black Forest could welcome more guests than last year.

Travelers are booking more spontaneously and prefer city trips with covered activities when the weather is bad. Overnight into Monday, the weather service predicts widespread rain. On Sunday, increasing dense clouds are forecast, and rain with thunderstorms is possible in the afternoon. Fog fields are possible overnight Friday into Saturday.

The weather forecast for this weekend in Baden-Württemberg predicts late summer conditions. On Saturday, highs will be 27°C at Lake Constance, and it could get hot along the Rhine, Neckar, and Danube rivers. Temperatures on Sunday will range from 20 to 25°C. The wind will mostly be light throughout the weekend.

The winemakers in the region, such as those from Württemberg, represented by the Württemberg Winegrowers' Association, are optimistic about the 2025 vintage. Vice President Bernhard Idler and President Dietrich Rembold have provided updates on the ongoing grape harvest currently in progress as of mid-September 2025.

Despite the warm weather, the hotel and restaurant industry in Baden-Württemberg is under pressure due to decreased overnight stays and increased costs. Some innkeepers may be looking forward to a warm and sunny weekend, but the industry as a whole continues to face challenges.
