Springtime Forecast 2025: Probable Excessive Dryness according to German Meteorological Service - Anticipated Spring season of 2025 predicted to be excessively arid

Germany's spring season in 2025 witnessed remarkably dry and warm conditions, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The DWD spokesperson reported that this year's spring could be the third driest on record, surpassed only by the springs of 1893 and 2011.

The dry spell has posed a significant challenge, particularly in regions like the northeast, which saw even lower precipitation levels. The season was also exceptionally sunny, boasting about 33% more sunshine hours than the reference period (1991–2020).

Temperature-wise, spring 2025 was warmer than the reference period, with an average of 0.9°C above the 1991–2020 base. When compared to earlier reference periods, the difference was significantly higher, at 1.9°C. It was also marked by more extreme heat days than usual, a trend that researchers link to climate change.

As of now, the average temperature could still rise over the weekend, potentially altering the final figures. It's worth noting that spring 2024 held the record for the warmest spring in Germany since records began.

Weather-forecasting predicts a potential temperature rise over the weekend, possibly affecting the final figures of spring 2025's weather in Germany. The extraordinary weather conditions in spring 2025, as experienced in Germany, include the weather being warmer than average, with Germany's northeast region experiencing even lower precipitation levels compared to the rest of the country.
