Spring 2025 Weather Report: Significant Warmth and Dryness, as Per DWD

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach has released the final report for spring 2025. The report highlights particularly warm and dry weather conditions during the season.

In recent weeks, the issue of drought has been a concern. According to the preliminary data, only the springs of 1893 and 2011 were drier than this year, prior to the meteorological start of summer on June 1.

Although the months of March, April, and May were cooler than usual, averaging 9.7 degrees, there is a possibility that the average temperature could increase over the weekend. Spring 2024 held the record for the warmest season in Germany since records began.

Preliminary findings from the DWD indicate that spring 2025 was warmer than the 1991-2020 reference period by 0.9°C. The season saw 695 hours of sunshine, approximately 33% more than the mean for the reference period. Moreover, spring 2025 was the third driest on record, with 96 liters of rain per square meter falling, as part of a broader trend of low rainfall since February.

These unusually sunny and dry conditions have raised concerns about potential forest fires and poor harvests, as noted by the environment minister in April. More information and sea-level pressure details will be announced by the DWD in their upcoming press conference.

The weather forecast for the upcoming weekend suggests a possible increase in temperature, adding to the unusually warm conditions experienced throughout spring 2025 in Germany, as per the German Weather Service (DWD). In light of the ongoing dryness, with spring 2025 being the third driest on record and only springs of 1893 and 2011 being drier prior to the meteorological start of summer, concerns about potential forest fires and poor harvests in Germany remain valid.
