Germany Experiences Unusually Dry and Warm Spring

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach has announced that spring 2025 was characterized by unusually warm and dry conditions. According to the preliminary data, this year's spring ranks as the third driest on record in Germany, with only 96 liters of rain per square meter falling throughout the season.

Spring 2025 was also warmer than previous years, with an average temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius. However, it is likely that the average temperature may change, as there is a possibility of relatively warm weather over the weekend.

The dry and sunny conditions have raised concerns about drought stress, crop risks, and forest fire potential in Germany during this period. According to the DWD, the spring of 2025 was approximately 33% sunnier than the reference period average, with around 695 hours of sunshine recorded.

The spokesperson from the DWD further stated that only the springs of 1893 and 2011 were drier than this year before the meteorological start of summer on June 1. The early part of the year, from February 1 to April 13, was particularly dry, with only 40 liters of rainfall per square meter recorded, the lowest value in records dating back to 1931.

The warmth and sunshine of spring 2025 have contributed to concerns over drought stress, risks to crops, and forest fire potential in Germany during this period. This combination of warmer temperatures and lower precipitation defined the overall spring weather pattern in Germany for 2025.
