Anticipated Spring 2025 Scenario: Relatively High Likelihood of Prolonged Drought Conditions - Anticipated Spring 2025 Season May Experiene Water Deficiency

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach has concluded that Spring 2025 was an unusually dry season in Germany. The dry spell, particularly noticeable in recent weeks, has raised concerns about the potential impact on the approaching summer.

Preliminary data indicates that Spring 2025 was significantly drier than the springs of 1893 and 2011, making it one of the three driest springs on record. Only 96 liters of rain per square meter fell during this period, which is approximately 33% below the average for the reference period.

On the temperature front, Spring 2025 was slightly warmer than previous years, with an average temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius. However, the DWD spokesperson noted that temperatures could still rise over the weekend, potentially pushing the average temperature higher. This contrasts with Spring 2024, which was the warmest on record in Germany.

In terms of sunshine, Spring 2025 saw 695 hours of sunshine, almost 33% more than the average for the reference period (522 hours).

Looking forward, the dry and warm conditions have triggered speculation about a potentially hot summer. However, weather models have significant uncertainties beyond short-term forecasts. The DWD will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more data becomes available.
