In the world of cinema, the battle for the top spot at the box office is heating up. This weekend, a new contender has emerged, challenging the reign of the action-packed sequel "Nobody 2".

According to Box Office Pro, the horror thriller "Weapons" is projected to have a stronger second weekend showing, with a take of $22 million to $28 million. This would be enough to hold onto the No. 1 spot, as "Nobody 2" is forecasted to earn $10 million to $12 million in its second weekend, falling to the No. 2 spot.

"Weapons" debuted to $23–25 million domestically and has held exceptionally well into its second weekend, making it a word-of-mouth sensation and top box office performer. In contrast, "Nobody 2" opened lower, earning approximately $9.25 million domestically in its opening weekend and ranking third behind "Weapons" and the comedy "Freakier Friday" which made $14.5 million.

Despite better performance than its 2021 predecessor, "Nobody 2" is struggling to rival "Weapons" in box office traction. The worldwide total for "Nobody 2" early on is around $17.2 million after its first six days, expected to cross $20 million by its second weekend.

The crime thriller "Highest 2 Lowest," directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Wendell Pierce, is opening in 300 theaters this weekend. Meanwhile, the action comedy "Americana," starring Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, and Eric Dane, is also opening in limited release.

"Americana" is produced and distributed by Lionsgate and has been attracting more attention due to Sydney Sweeney's controversial American Eagle "good jeans" ad. On the other hand, "Highest 2 Lowest" debuted at the 2025 Cannes International Film Festival and is an A24 release, set to stream on Apple TV in September.

RZA and Christopher Lloyd also return in their respective roles in "Nobody 2", with Sharon Stone playing a new character, Lendina. The sequel to "Nobody" features the return of Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Paisley Cadorath, and Gage Monroe.

As the weekend unfolds, it remains to be seen if "Weapons" can maintain its grip on the No. 1 spot or if "Nobody 2" can mount a comeback. Stay tuned for updates!
