Anticipated Mumbai Weather: Expected Light Rainfall under IMD Thunderstorm Warning for Konkan, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra until August 9th
Thunderstorms Sweep Through Maharashtra, Affecting Konkan Region
Maharashtra is currently bracing for an increase in thunderstorm activity, as warned by the weather department, from August 5 to August 9. This stormy spell has been particularly intense in the Konkan region, including the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds over parts of Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, and Konkan during this period. The IMD issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai city and Thane, and a Red Alert for Raigad, signaling significant weather disturbances in these areas.
The thunderstorm activity in Maharashtra is part of a broader active monsoon phase with widespread heavy rainfall and thunderstorm spells affecting various parts of India. The Konkan region, however, has been notably affected in Maharashtra.
While Mumbai and its metropolitan regions are expected to experience less impact from the change in the weather system, the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are more likely to witness intense thunderstorm activity. No special coastal fishermen warnings were issued for South Maharashtra-Goa coast, indicating that the sea conditions there were relatively stable.
For the overall monsoon 2025, the weather department has already forecasted above-average rainfall. Despite the below-normal to normal rainfall expected in August, a revival of above-normal rainfall is anticipated in September.
Meanwhile, in other news, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has held the Repo Rate steady at 5.5% and maintained a neutral policy stance. Furthermore, the Income Tax Return (ITR) must be verified within 30 days from the date to complete the return filing process.
Mumbai's weather is expected to remain cloudy with light rain during the specified period, with the maximum temperature around 33 degrees C, and the minimum temperature around 27 degrees C.
