Anticipated Expansion for Dying Light, "The Beast," Scheduled for Release in August

Gearing Up for The Beast: Finally, we've got a release date for the long-awaited expansion to the Dying Light franchise, and it's just around the corner. Techland unveiled Dying Light: The Beast during the Summer Game Fest showcase, setting its rampage for August 22.

Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the original game, makes a comeback, but things haven't exactly gone swimmin'ly for him. Instead of basking in the post-game glory, Crane spent a grueling 13 years undergoing twisted experiments orchestrated by the nefarious character known as The Baron, who seems to be building a formidable zombie army with sinister intentions.

After a miraculous escape, Crane's out for vengeance, and it turns out that this villain's experiments held a peculiar advantage—the integration of zombie DNA, allowing Crane to tap into his inner-beast. The specifics of this beast mode capability aren't clear yet, but it probably involves superhuman strength, durability, and other related abilities—think catching a large boulder with a single punch and using it as a weapon to decimate nearby zombies.

Crane appears to have an unusual determination to engage in hand-to-hand combat with a colossal zombie resembling four muscled-up Lou Ferrignos in a casing, not the kind of opponent one would typically appreciate engaging with.

The Beast was initially planned as DLC for Dying Light 2, but it soon became apparent that it had outgrown its initial scope and morphed into a standalone game owing to its significant evolution. This development explains the unanticipated delay, but good news for eager fans: Dying Light: The Beast will be available for free to owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition. For everyone else, pre-orders are now available on Steam.

Keep a close eye on new gaming releases, news, and deals this year with PC Gamer's round-up of the upcoming releases, our all-time favorites, free games, the finest gunplay, grand adventures, and co-op experiences.

Editors' Note: The Beast joins the Dying Light universe as a standalone game that will drop on various platforms, including PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and (console version) PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is priced at $59.99, but holders of Dying Light 2: Stay Human's Ultimate Edition will receive it for free upon its August 22 release date. If you're eager to secure some bonus content, go ahead and pre-order so you can enjoy the Hero of Harran bundle[1][2][3].
