Anticipated Early and Heavy Floods in Krasnoyarsk Krai

Premonitions suggest that flooding in Krasnoyarsk Krai will commence towards the end of March or begin April. This year's floods might be stronger than usual, according to the Emergency Situations Ministry (MChS).

Hefty soil saturation in November 2024 could complicate the situation, as per MChS.

The regions facing the risk of flooding during the initial wave include Berezovsky, Yemelyanovsky, Yermakovsky, Kuraginsky, Minusinsky, Shushinsky, and Uzhursky districts, as well as Bogotolsky, Kosulsky, Tuykhketsky, and Sharypovsky municipal districts.

The second wave of spring flooding is anticipated during the third week of April - the first week of June. During this period, there will be active snowmelt in the foothills and mountain tundra regions of the Saian, as well as the Yenisei and Angara rivers springing to life.

According to MChS, the districts most vulnerable to these floods include Balakhkinsky, Yemelyanovsky, Yeniseisky, Yermakovsky, Irbeisky, Karatuzsky, Kuraginsky, Minusinsky, Turukhansky, Evenkiysky. Additionally, Birlyussky and Severo-Yeniseisky municipal districts should also be on high alert.

In light of climate change, Russia has been experiencing an increase in extreme weather events. Rainstorms, especially during spring and summer, can trigger flooding and landslides in regions bordering rivers, potentially rendering roads impassable and damaging infrastructure[2].

While precise flood predictions for March-April 2025 in Krasnoyarsk Krai aren't offered, it's reasonable to assume that the region may confront significant spring flooding due to melting snow and potential heavy rainfall, particularly in areas near rivers.

Residents are advised to stay updated on local weather forecasts, heed the advice of local authorities during emergencies, and prepare for high water levels in regions around rivers like those in Krasnoyarsk Krai. If you're caught in a flood, remember: don't try to swim against the current—it's stronger than you. Instead, try to stay afloat and move with the water's flow. If you're in a vehicle, abandon it as soon as possible and seek higher ground. Better to be safe than swept away by a wicked torrent.

The news of potential spring flooding in Krasnoyarsk Krai has raised concerns in the environmental-science community, as the weather forecasts suggest heavy rainfall and melting snow could exacerbate the situation. In light of these factors, it's crucial for residents to monitor local weather updates and heed the advice of authorities during emergencies to ensure their safety.
